In celebration of the Canopy EP coming out this week on vinyl, here’s a fresh and joyful take on one of the ripping chillwave jamz by fellow West Coast pop-makers. I love it when talented artists re-work each other’s material and this is as fine an example as any. Get yr dancin’ shoes on!
Nab that wax from Secretly Canadian today.
This is good shit.
The Streets - Going Through Hell feat. Robert Harvey (Diplo Remix)
Mike Skinner… How do I begin to explain Mike Skinner? Mike Skinner is flawless. I hear his Nike’s are insured for $10,000. I hear he does car commercials… in England. His favorite movie is Notes of a Scandal. One time he met Jessica Alba on a plane… And she told him he was fit. One time he punched me in the face… it was awesome.
OK, seriously though, if you haven’t heard The Streets (AKA Mike Skinner) then you should immediately check out what he’s got to offer. He’s a great artist and clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously. He often straddles that fence between comedy music and legitimate music and safely somersaults off that fence and sticks the landing back over in the yard not occupied by Al Yancovic wannabes.
You’ll have to admit that this song, remixed or not, is one hell of a “go-get-em” anthem. Unfortunately, Skinner’s latest album, Computers and Blues, is planned to be his last. Whether he sticks to his musical retirement or not is yet to be seen but he seems to be have been doing some acting lately. Some of you may have noticed him getting one hell of a kiss from one River Song in his cameo appearance on Doctor Who last year.
