I’ve known the song for a long time, but I hadn’t watched the music video for it until now…
This has to be the all time creepiest and unintentionally hilarious music videos of all time.
A creepy high school drama (or music) teacher, played by Lionel Richie is stalking a blind student of his. He follows her down the halls of the school. Then at lunch he creeps behind her and tries to touch her hair, only to be spooked off by her friends. He knows her schedule and walks in during her dance class. Later at night when she’s about to go to bed, he calls her. She answers the phone and he doesn’t say anything, listening to her breathe. Then my favorite part, he sings the chorus on the phone, “HELLLOOOO, is it me you’re looking for?” and hangs up.
TWIST: She’s down for the “D”. Turns out that the love she feels for the teacher is just as blind as her. She somehow sculpts a near-perfect bust of Lionel Richie, complete with mustache.
